Following the Path of Pilgrims of Old on the Road to Santiago De Compostela.

Camino Portuguese Coastal & Interior Route

 

DAY 1: Monday 21 October 2024

Depart for your overnight flight to Lisbon,

Meals will be served on board.

DAY 2: Tuesday 22 October 2024

Arrival Lisbon airport, Portugal.   Upon arrival your guide and driver will be at the airport waiting for you. Panoramic and short stops at some of Lisbon’s famous sights (depending on flight arrival times and delays). Then continuing on to Fatima, our home for 2 nights.  Overnight: Fatima

DAY 3: Wednesday 23 October 2024

After breakfast our morning begins with a visit to the Sanctuary of Fatima, a world renown Pilgrimage site famous for the Marian Apparitions. Constructed after Lucia Santos and her 2 cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto were visited by the Virgin Mary in 1916. Guided visit of the Museum of the Shrine of Fatima including a short video of the story of Fatima. Free time for lunch followed by an afternoon walk along the Stations of the Cross and to the tiny village where the 3 young children lived.
After dinner we will take part in the nightly torchlight procession. Pending confirmation that the procession will be held on that date. Dinner and overnight: Fatima

DAY 4: Thursday 24 October 2024

Early breakfast and check out. Our journey continues travelling from Fatima to Matosinhos, Porto. Here we will enjoy a 4 km walk along the Camino Portuguese together with Father Jaime who serves the Anglican community at the Do Torne Church in Gaia, Porto (agenda permitting). Free time to get an early lunch. Then a further 8km walk along the Camino Coastal route. Route to be decided upon depending on duration of our time with Father Jaime. Free time late afternoon and evening to enjoy Viana do Castelo.  Overnight: Viana do Castelo.

DAY 5: Friday 25 October 2024

Breakfast and check out. Our walk continues along the Camino Portuguese Coastal route. Our first walk from the northern beach of Viana do Castelo to the Carreco beach (approx. 6km). Free time for an early snack in the town of Vila Praia de Angora then from there a 5km walk to Moledo. Once we have regrouped our journey continues by bus to the Portuguese frontier town of Valenca do Minho where we will have a little free time before walking the short distance of 3km over the bridge that crosses the River Minho into Spain.  Overnight: Tui

DAY 6: Saturday 26 October 2024

Breakfast and bus transfer to Vigo to commence our days walk. Today there will be 2 options. A 16km walk from Vigo to Redondela, or Teis to Redondela (10km). Today we also anticipate and welcome Adela Ben Couto, from the Reformed Episcopal Church in Spain. Who, agenda permitting, will be joining us for a few kilometres. She is the first female deacon to be named in Spain, and is responsible for the Cristo church in Pontevedra and auxiliary to the Poderoso Salvador church in Vigo. Late afternoon bus transfer back to our hotel in Tui.  Dinner and overnight: Tui

DAY 7: Sunday 27 October 2024

Breakfast and checkout. Our bus will take us to our starting point in Redondela. Today’s walk is 20km, from Redondela to Pontevedra. Or you can opt for the shorter distance of 13km (Arcade to Pontevedra). Free afternoon in Pontevedra.
Overnight: Pontevedra

DAY 8: Monday 28 2024

After the storm comes the calm. Check out after breakfast a slightly longer but lighter walk awaits you. 22km from Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis. Beautiful scenery, a great moment to reflect and let your inner thoughts guide your day. Or the option of a shorter distance of 14km, from San Amaro to Caldas de Reis. Caldas de Rei is a small medieval spa town. Its famous hot thermal springs are a well-deserved treat for the feet.  Overnight: Caldas de Reis

DAY 9: Tuesday 29 October 2024

Check out after breakfast and a shorter walk awaits. Caldas de Rei to Padron, approx. 19km. There is also the option of a shorter walk of 10km, from Valgas to Padron. Through hamlets, forests and vineyards, a delightful day walk. PADRON. One of the most emblematic sites on the Camino and the history of the Camino de Santiago, but it is only the Camino Portuguese that passes through this place. Padron, then known as Iria Flavia, is the town where the boat, along with the body of St James, arrived to after his death. This boat was moored to a ‘pedron’, stone, hence this name becoming more popular and the town centuries ago became known as Padron.  Dinner and overnight: Padron

DAY 10: Wednesday 30 October 2024

At last a leisurely breakfast. Then together visiting the Santiago church in Padron and collecting our Pedronia certificates before commencing our 10 km walk from Padron to Picaraña. Once we have regrouped we will take advantage of our bus and visit the local area and weather permitting enjoying a trip along the maritime Stations of the Cross (boat ticket cost NOT INCLUDED), or you can opt for free time in Padron.  Overnight and dinner: Padron

DAY 11: Thursday 31 October 2024
Early breakfast and checkout. We started as a family, the path has been the same but the journey so different for every one of us. Awaiting us at the end of our days walk is the Obradoiro square, the Cathedral of Santiago and emotions beyond words.  Our bus will take us on to the start of the last walk of our journey. 16km from Picaraña to Santiago de Compostela, there is also the option of a shorter 8km walk from Miladoiro to Santiago.

DAY 12: Friday 1 November 2024

A busy morning…. Together we will attend the Pilgrim Mass, and our offering of the Botafumeiro.  Next stop is the Pilgrim office to collect our Compostela certificates. A short time for coffee before visiting the Portico de la Gloria and Cathedral Roof top.  Free time for lunch & free afternoon.  Overnight: Santiago & dinner at the Parador.

DAY 13: Saturday 2 November 2024

Free morning in Santiago. Early afternoon excursion to Finisterre (Land’s End) where we will celebrate Holy Eucharist on the beach before travelling on to a farewell celebratory drink at the lighthouse bringing our Pilgrimage to a close.  Overnight: Santiago

DAY 14: Sunday 3 November 2024

After a free morning in Santiago, we will transfer by bus to Porto with time for reflection.  Overnight in Porto

DAY 15: Monday 4 November 2024

End of tour group transfer to Porto airport for our flight home.
